Esteban Andrada, the goalkeeper for Real Zaragoza, is likely to face an extended suspension for physically altercation with a Huesca player during a match in Spain's second division on Sunday, an incident that led to his ejection from the game.
A fracas erupted in stoppage time when Andrada, a 35-year-old Argentina international, shoved Jorge Pulido to the ground, prompting his dismissal, and then further lost his composure, charging at Pulido and instigating a melee on the field.
The fallout from the incident also saw the ejection of Huesca's Dani Jimenez and Zaragoza's Dani Tasende, as the home team managed to preserve a 1-0 victory.
Andrada, who is on loan from Mexico's Monterrey, may be suspended for up to 12 matches for throwing a punch, in addition to the mandatory one-match ban that accompanies his red card.
Zaragoza issued a statement denouncing the behavior, saying that the events that transpired were unbecoming of the sport and should not have occurred, and that they would be examining the incident involving Andrada and taking appropriate disciplinary action.
The club also expressed dismay that the altercation had marred a crucial regional match, emphasizing that such behavior was unacceptable.
With both Zaragoza and Huesca currently mired in the relegation zone, they are battling to avoid demotion to Spain's third tier.
