Tragedy strikes as five relatives lose their lives in Yobe road crash

A devastating road accident along the Damaturu–Maiduguri highway in Yobe State has claimed the lives of at least five members of the same family, leaving the community in a state of profound sorrow. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday and involved residents of Potiskum Local Government Area.

A relative of the victims, Dahiru Musa Talba, took to his Facebook page on Wednesday to confirm the heartbreaking news, revealing that the victims were all from the same family and had lost their lives in the crash.

According to Talba, three other relatives sustained injuries of varying severity and were rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu, the state capital, for medical attention.

Talba expressed his deep grief and devastation over the loss, writing "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un, my mom has died," as he struggled to come to terms with the tragedy.

The accident, which took place along the heavily trafficked Damaturu–Maiduguri highway, has sparked widespread sadness and concern among locals.

SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Yobe State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that five people were killed in the accident, while others were injured, and an investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of the crash.

Abdulkarim stated that the accident involved members of the same family, with five confirmed fatalities and several others injured, emphasizing that the police are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

The victims have been identified as Hajjagana Dahiru Zayi, Ibrahim Dahiru Zayi, Muhammad Dahiru Zayi, Hauwa Dahiru Zayi, and another family member, whose loss has sent shockwaves through the community.

Locals have described the incident as truly heartbreaking and are urging drivers to exercise extreme caution when using the highway to prevent further tragedies from occurring.
