Police arrest two over kidnapping of 38-year-old man in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command on Sunday said it had arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter, at Layeri Village, via Ikoyi-Ile, in the Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, according to a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, in Ibadan, were Muhammadu Abubakar and Jayun Danali, who are currently assisting the police with information relevant to the investigation.

Ayanlade explained that the arrest followed a swift response to a report received in connection with the incident.

He said preliminary findings revealed that three armed men forcibly gained entry into Peter’s room and abducted him from the premises.

Ayanlade explained that the assailants subsequently escaped through the National Reserve Forest after reportedly carting away a Hajue motorcycle and the victim’s mobile phone.

The police spokesperson said the incident was reported on September 24, 2026, at about 5:50 pm by a resident of the community, who informed the police that earlier that day, at about 4:20 am, armed men had invaded a family compound in the area.

Upon receipt of the report, Ayanlade said police operatives immediately commenced action and proceeded to the scene for preliminary assessment and investigation.

The statement read, “The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a 38-year-old man, Nathaniel Peter, at Layeri Village, via Ikoyi-Ile, Oyo State, following a swift response to a report received in connection with the incident.

“The incident was reported on 24 September 2026 at about 1750hrs by a resident of the community, who informed the police that earlier that day at about 0420hrs, armed men had invaded a family compound in the area. Upon receipt of the report, police operatives immediately commenced action and proceeded to the scene for preliminary assessment and investigation.

“Preliminary findings revealed that three of the armed men forcibly gained entry into the room of Nathaniel Peter, aged 38 years, and abducted him from the premises. The assailants subsequently escaped through the National Reserve Forest after reportedly carting away a Hajue motorcycle and the victim’s mobile phone.

“In continuation of the investigation and efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the abduction, operatives arrested two suspects, namely Muhammadu Abubakar, male, adult, and Jayun Danali, male, aged 17 years, who are currently assisting the police with information relevant to the investigation.

“The arrest has consequently provided useful investigative leads towards identifying and apprehending other persons connected with the incident.”

The PPRO stressed that the command, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified coordinated operations aimed at securing the safe rescue of the victim and apprehending other fleeing members of the criminal gang.

The command, therefore, reassured members of the public, particularly residents of the affected communities, of its commitment to their safety and security.

It also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly share credible information with the police, as the command continues its efforts to resolve the incident and maintain peace and security across the state.
