A prominent Niger Delta activist, Chief Inko Brightstar, popularly known as Whoknows Tomorrow, has strongly challenged the management of the Bayelsa State City Park over reported threats to arrest a young lady who visited the park and allegedly touched a lion’s tail.
Reacting to the incident, Chief Brightstar faulted the decision to target the visitor, describing it as a deliberate attempt to shift blame and evade responsibility.
In his words:
“Arrest her for what specific offense? The attempt to criminalize the victim completely misses the point. The real issue here is the glaring negligence of the management of the so-called City Park. Any facility that allows a visitor to gain unrestricted access to a lion’s enclosure has fundamentally failed in its duty of care and responsibility to ensure public safety.
This incident clearly exposes poor safety standards, inadequate supervision, and a reckless disregard for human life. If an ordinary visitor can access a dangerous wild animal with such ease, then it is equally possible for the animal to escape and attack unsuspecting members of the public. The management of this facility must be held fully accountable, as this incident raises serious concerns about the overall safety of the park and the protection of visitors who enter the premises in good faith.”
Chief Brightstar further called on relevant authorities to urgently investigate the safety standards of the park and take appropriate action to prevent a potential tragedy.
