Lagos sets June 29 as commencement day for this year's junior secondary school WAEC examinations

The Lagos State Government has confirmed that the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination, also known as the Junior WAEC, is set to take place from June 29 to July 6, 2026.

This confirmation was made public by the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education through the Lagos State Examinations Board in a statement released on Thursday.

The examination schedule, as outlined by the board, indicates that the tests will commence on Monday, June 29, 2026, and come to a close on Monday, July 6, 2026.

According to the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, the examination marks a crucial phase in the academic development of students across the state.

Orunsolu noted that the examination represents a significant milestone in the educational journey of students across the state, underscoring its importance in their academic progression.

He advised parents, guardians, and school administrators to acquaint themselves with the examination timetable and adhere to all directives issued by the board to ensure a smooth process.

The BECE, Orunsolu explained, serves as the qualifying examination for students transitioning from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School in both public and approved private schools across Lagos.

He emphasized that schools bear the responsibility of ensuring all eligible students are adequately prepared and meet the necessary requirements for the examination.

The registrar also assured stakeholders that the board has completed all necessary administrative and logistical preparations to facilitate the seamless conduct of the examination statewide.

In reaffirming the state government's commitment to upholding examination integrity, Orunsolu reiterated the government's zero-tolerance stance on malpractice.

He cautioned that any instances of examination malpractice, disruption, or misconduct during the examination period would be met with appropriate disciplinary measures, as per existing regulations.
