The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has pinpointed the causes of the erratic power supply across its franchise, identifying shortages in gas supply to generating plants and instability in energy allocation from the national grid as the primary factors contributing to the challenges faced by customers.

Furthermore, the company has acknowledged the significant inconvenience caused by the ongoing power supply challenges, appealing for calm and assuring customers of continued dialogue with communities as it intensifies efforts to address the situation.

This explanation was provided in a statement issued by the company's management on Saturday, which was made available in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

According to the management, the current supply constraints are largely linked to challenges affecting power generation and supply on the national grid, with gas supply shortages to power generating plants reducing generation capacity nationwide.

This reduction in generation capacity has resulted in increased load shedding across the company's network, while electricity demand within the IBEDC franchise has risen considerably in recent months, particularly following the addition of more Band A feeders in line with regulatory directives.

Despite the rising demand, energy allocation from the national grid has remained unstable and subject to periodic declines, creating a wider gap between available supply and customer demand.

As a result of these constraints, some communities within the franchise are experiencing supply shortfalls, and the company has apologized for the disruption to homes, businesses, and economic activities, acknowledging the frustration this has generated among customers.

The situation has triggered protests in some communities within the franchise, prompting the company to appeal for constructive engagement rather than confrontation, recognizing the right of customers to express their concerns.

The company has been actively engaging community leaders and stakeholders across its coverage areas to foster mutual understanding of the situation and to work together towards sustainable solutions, and is urging customers to embrace dialogue rather than protests.

IBEDC has assured customers that it is actively engaging with relevant stakeholders within the power value chain to address the imbalance in energy allocation, restore stability to the grid, and improve electricity supply to customers.
