Rt. Hon.

Rodney Ambaiowei, the member representing Southern Ijaw Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and a second-term aspirant, today led his campaign team on a consultative visit to the residence of Hon. Joseph Ede Alakere in Agbura, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

The visit was aimed at seeking the support of Hon. Alakere and his political family for his re-election bid ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for political engagement, reconciliation and discussions on the collective interests of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Rodney Ambaiowei Seeks Support for His Second-Term Bid

Speaking during the visit, Rt. Hon. Rodney Ambaiowei expressed gratitude to Hon. Alakere for warmly receiving him and his entourage and providing them with generous hospitality.

He explained that the visit was primarily to reconnect with his brother politically, engage with his political family and seek their support for his second-term ambition.

According to him, his first tenure in the House of Representatives had enabled him to reach some communities and pursue developmental initiatives, but several important projects and legislative objectives remained to be accomplished.

He noted that returning for a second term would provide him with greater legislative experience and opportunities to advance important bills and projects.

As an example, he disclosed that a bill he sponsored for the establishment of a technical college in Bomo Clan was still pending, expressing confidence that, if re-elected, he would intensify efforts to ensure its passage.

Hon. Ambaiowei also appealed for support for other APC candidates, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, Distinguished Senator Konbowei Friday Benson for another term in the Senate, and Hon.

Nigeria Kia, an aspirant for the Southern Ijaw Constituency III seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

He explained that although they had previously belonged to different political parties, they were now united under the APC, following the governor's directive and the subsequent political realignment.

Alakere Declares Support for Ambaowei, Maintains Position on Senate Race

In his response, Hon. Joseph Ede Alakere welcomed Rt.

Hon. Ambaiowei and his entourage, describing the visit as a demonstration of the importance of political consultation and reconciliation.

Reflecting on their political history, Alakere recalled their past disagreements when Ambaowei was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and he was serving as an APC local government agent. He noted that their political differences were now part of the past, demonstrating how political relationships could evolve.

Alakere, however, emphasized the importance of honesty and clarity in political discussions, stating that he had already taken a position regarding the forthcoming senatorial election.

He advised Ambaowei to concentrate on his own re-election campaign rather than seeking to influence his position on other aspirants.

Addressing the House of Representatives race, Alakere gave Ambaiowei an assurance of support, promising to mobilize his political family and communicate the agreed direction to their supporters in the various communities.

He also affirmed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's second-term ambition, describing him as the APC's candidate.

However, regarding the senatorial contest and the Southern Ijaw Constituency III House of Assembly race, Alakere maintained that he had his own position on the Senate race and had yet to make a final decision on the Assembly contest. He urged Ambaowei to respect his position and focus on securing his own re-election.

“Today, we are all together, and that is the beauty of politics,” Alakere noted, underscoring the importance of unity despite previous political disagreements.

A Call for Political Cooperation

In his closing remarks, Rt. Hon.

Rodney Ambaiowei thanked Hon. Alakere for the warm reception and assurances of support.

He expressed optimism that their renewed political relationship would strengthen cooperation and promote their shared interests within the APC.

The consultative visit marks another step in the ongoing political engagements among party stakeholders in Bayelsa State as preparations gather momentum for the forthcoming elections.
