A tragic incident occurred in Kaduna State, where former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo suffered a fatal collapse during a football match, ultimately resulting in his death at the age of 40.
According to a report by SCORENigeria on Friday, the fatal incident took place at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna, where Eneramo had been playing as a second-half substitute before suddenly slumping without any prior physical contact.
A source revealed that Eneramo's collapse was instantaneous and efforts to revive him were unfortunately unsuccessful, with the former striker being pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
The source further stated, “He slumped and died right on the spot, and despite attempts to resuscitate him, he was unable to be saved.
Eneramo had enjoyed a notable career, featuring for prominent clubs such as Beşiktaş J.K., Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Lobi Stars F.C., before retiring from professional football and going on to run a football academy.
Prior to his passing, Eneramo had been involved in the development of young football talent through his academy, a testament to his enduring passion for the sport.
The Nigeria national football team's official handle paid a heartfelt tribute to the late striker, sharing an image of Eneramo with a simple yet poignant message, “Rest in peace Michael.”
