The former Amananaowei (Paramount Ruler) of Ekowe Community, Chief Godwill Andy Toboro, alongside four former youth executives of the community, has been remanded in custody by the Bayelsa State High Court, Oporoma Judicial Division, sitting in Onopa, Yenagoa.

The court's decision followed proceedings in a case bordering on the alleged murder of Late Emi Martins Sigah.

Delivering the ruling, the trial judge held that a prima facie case of murder had been established against the accused persons. Consequently, Chief Godwill Andy Toboro and the four former youth executives were ordered to be remanded at the Okaka Correctional Centre, Yenagoa, pending the determination of the substantive case.

The court further ruled that none of the defendants should be granted bail at this stage of the trial.

Eyewitnesses observed the accused persons being conveyed to the correctional facility in a Black Maria shortly after the court proceedings.

Late Emi Martins Sigah, who had been accused of raping a minor, was allegedly brutalized, severely beaten, and flogged to death on March 24, 2026. His death sparked widespread reactions and drew significant public attention across Bayelsa State.

The latest court ruling marks a significant development in the case, which continues to attract keen interest from members of the public. The matter has been adjourned to a later date for further hearing.

As the legal process unfolds, many residents and observers maintain that no individual is above the law and that justice must take its course regardless of status or position in society.

The case remains before the court, and all accused persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.
