Aminu Tambuwal, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Sokoto State, has officially relinquished his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing the PDP's ongoing internal turmoil as the primary motivator for his decision.

Tambuwal's resignation from the PDP was prompted by the party's persistent internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and deepening divisions, which he believes have irreparably compromised the party's unity and direction.

In a statement released on X in the early hours of Thursday, Tambuwal announced his defection, confirming that he had submitted his resignation in writing to his ward chairman prior to formally joining the ADC alongside his associates and supporters.

Tambuwal acknowledged the significant role the PDP has played in shaping his political career, which includes his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and two terms as Sokoto State Governor, but emphasized that the party's internal deterioration had rendered continued membership unsustainable.

According to Tambuwal, the PDP's internal crisis, leadership disagreements, and growing divisions have collectively weakened the party's unity and direction, ultimately necessitating his decision to exit the party.

Tambuwal expressed his conviction that the ADC offers Nigeria a more robust platform for democratic progress, driven by principles of integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a commitment to national development.

He reaffirmed his dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity, underscoring his belief that the ADC is better equipped to advance these values and promote the country's development.

Tambuwal's defection to the ADC follows a series of high-profile defections, including that of former presidential candidate Peter Obi, positioning the party as a increasingly viable opposition platform in the lead-up to the next electoral cycle.
