Bayelsa State Gas Turbine Project and Unfulfilled Promises

Chief Inko Brightstar, a prominent Niger Delta activist, popularly known as “Whoknows Tomorrow,” has once again called on the Governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency Senator Douye Diri, to address the continued delay in the completion of the much-anticipated gas turbine project.

In his words:

“Your Excellency, sir, with due respect, today marks the end of March—a timeline you have repeatedly assured Bayelsans, for the fourth time, that the gas turbine would be commissioned and put into use. Now, the month has come to an end, yet there is no visible progress or indication that this promise will be fulfilled.

I humbly ask: should Bayelsans prepare to receive yet another promise regarding this same project?

For many of us, hope had already faded concerning this gas turbine. However, it was recently rekindled during your visit to Ayakoro Ogbia, the hometown of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Chief Dr. Samuel Ogbuku. At that event, you confidently assured Bayelsans that the project would be ready before the end of March, and that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would be present to commission it.

Today is the last day of March. Once again, the people are left waiting.

Your Excellency Sir, what should Bayelsans expect now? Another timeline in April, or perhaps a new promise extending to December?”.
