2027: Ogbomoso stakeholders demand Oyo guber ticket

ABUJA: A political pressure group, The Ogbomoso Project TOP, has called on all political parties and stakeholders in Oyo state to zone their governorship tickets to the Ogbomoso Zone.

The zone, which comprises five local government areas, is being positioned by the group to produce the next occupant of the Agodi Government House.

Convener of the group, Prince Olusegun Oyeniyi, said his team aims to mobilize Ogbomoso indigenes both at home and in the diaspora to unite behind a single agenda for the actualization of an Ogbomoso-born governor.

The group emphasized its commitment to rallying political parties to ensure that the zone is prioritized in the next electoral cycle.

According to TOP, the move is intended to bring together individuals from across the political spectrum to secure a common goal for the region.

“The time is now for Ogbomoso to take the reins of Oyo State. We have waited patiently, and it is time for our turn. We shall move round for support both in and outside Ogbomoso, to engage with various stakeholders to drive this agenda and ensure our interests to be the next governor of the state is well-presented in the state’s political landscape”, said Oyeniyi.

The agitation is rooted in a long-standing demand for equitable representation and development within Oyo State.

Supporters of the movement argue that Ogbomoso is a significant contributor to the state’s economy, socio-cultural identity and political stability, justifying its claim to the highest office in the state.

The group disclosed that it has already commenced its strategic processes and will soon initiate high-level engagements with community leaders, politicians and the general public to build a broad-based consensus for the project.
