Ebonyi State Governor and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Francis Nwifuru, has said that the party will not support unpopular aspirants without visible achievements in their current or previous positions in the forthcoming election.

Nwifuru, who stated this when he joined the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial district, Peter Nwebonyi, to commission some of his completed projects and inspect the ongoing ones in his Senatorial district.

The governor, who was represented by the chairman of the party in the state, Stanley Emegha, said the party will look at the records and what the aspirants have achieved ahead of the 2027 elections.

He commended Senator Nwebonyi for attracting what he described as life-touching projects for his constituents, especially the completed 3-bedroom bungalow he built for the APC woman leader of Izzi Local Government Area, Mrs. Felicia Ogbonna.

He noted that such gestures encourage women’s participation in politics, and called on other National Assembly members to emulate Senator Nwebonyi.

“The time for stock-taking has come, and only those with results and visible achievements will be considered again to fly our party’s tickets for the next general elections.

“Those who have nothing to show for their years of representation will have themselves to blame as the party will not like to repeat its mistakes in 2027,” he warned.

Senator Nwebonyi said he was motivated by the need to complement the developmental efforts of Governor Nwifuru in his senatorial district.

He promised to set a standard in representative governance that will be difficult, if not impossible, to beat if he gets re-elected in 2027.

“Your Excellency, our governor and our leader, I was motivated to embark on this project outside my core legislative duties of lawmaking and oversight functions, to complement your wonderful efforts in our senatorial district.

“This classroom block and other completed projects just like many others we are doing in many community schools within my constituency, is intended to help us to reverse the increasing rate of out-of-school children in Ebonyi North Senatorial district. Because findings have revealed that poor learning environment is one of the major factors causing children to drop from school. This is intended to reverse the trend and encourage our children to go back to school,” he said.

At several project sites in Abakaliki, Izzi and Ebonyi local government areas, stakeholders – comprising traditional rulers and community leaders – expressed joy and excitement for the dividends of democracy they were enjoying under Nwifuru’s administration and from Nwebonyi’s quality representation.

Some of the projects commissioned and inspected include roads, classrooms and street lights.
