The AKK socio-political group has called on the All Progressives Congress in Oyo State to prioritize credibility when selecting its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, emphasizing the need for strategy over sentiment in a high-stakes contest.

According to Sunday Ademoroti, the group's head, the success of President Bola Tinubu's reforms hinges on the performance of governors, who are now the driving force behind delivery, execution, and real impact at the state level.

Oyo State is at a critical juncture, the group noted, and the APC must avoid repeating past mistakes by embracing a more strategic approach, presenting a candidate who can unite the party and deliver results.

The group warned that the upcoming election should not be about noise, popularity, or sentiment, but rather about capacity, ideas, and the ability to deliver tangible outcomes.

A statement from the group highlighted that Oyo State's problem is not a lack of politicians, but rather the absence of coordinated, idea-driven leadership that can translate vision into measurable progress.

The APC must choose a candidate who can unite party factions, compete strongly against the PDP, and deliver tangible development after victory, the group emphasized.

Dr Adewale Kareem is seen as a candidate who fits this profile, with a political approach that reflects strategy and substance, according to the group.

Kareem's ability to maintain acceptability across different blocs within the party makes him a natural unifier, the statement added, at a time when division remains the APC's greatest internal threat.

The group noted that Kareem's policy direction is marked by a level of policy depth that is rare in the current field, going beyond general promises to speak directly to practical governance.

States that align with federal reforms will be better positioned to attract support, implement policies efficiently, and achieve faster development outcomes, the group said, with Kareem demonstrating readiness to operate within this framework.

While advocating for consensus, the group cautioned that such a consensus must be fair, credible, and widely accepted, warning that the party must not hesitate to adopt direct primaries if a fair consensus cannot be achieved.
