Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been rebuffed by Bashir El-Rufai, the son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, after offering condolences on the passing of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, Bashir's grandmother.
In a statement, Governor Sani expressed sympathy to the former governor and his family, praising Hajiya Umma El-Rufai as a woman of strong values and compassion, and speaking on behalf of the Government and people of Kaduna State.
He described the deceased as a devoted mother and matriarch, and a woman of rare grace, moral clarity, and quiet strength, who lived a life marked by humility and service.
The governor's statement also highlighted Hajiya Umma El-Rufai's role in her community as a steady source of counsel and reconciliation, and noted that she lived a life defined by compassion, humility, and steadfast service.
Governor Sani offered prayers for the repose of Hajiya Umma El-Rufai's soul and strength for the bereaved family, asking Almighty Allah to forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal repose in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Bashir El-Rufai responded to the condolence message with a brief post, writing "Bama so", a Hausa phrase that translates to "we don’t want", effectively dismissing the governor's gesture.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai remains in custody after being arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion of public property and money laundering.
